The authors prove global existence and asymptotic decay of a solution to the Cauchy problem for the equation \(u_{tt}-\triangle u+u_t=| u| ^pu\), \(t>0\), \(x\in \mathbb{R}^2\), \(p>1\) with small initial data. Moreover, they deduce \(L^p\)-\(L^q\) estimates for the difference of the solution and a solution of heat equation with the same nonlinearity term. Similar results for three-dimensional equation were proved by \textit{K. Nishihara} [Math. Z. 244, 631--649 (2003; Zbl 1023.35078)].
