Let \(G\) be a compact -- in general non-Abelian -- group with dual \(\widehat{G}\). For a measure \(\mu\in M(G)\) and \(R\in \widehat{G}\) let \(\widehat{\mu}(R)\) denote the Fourier transform. \(M^1(G) \cong L^1(G)\) denotes the ideal of absolutely continuous measures in the Banach algebra \(M(G)\). Generalizing the spectral radius formula for absolutely continuous measures on Abelian groups the authors prove (Theorem 2.1): \[ \rho(\mu) = \lim | | \mu^n| | ^{1/n} = \sup\limits_{R\in\widehat{G}} \rho(\widehat{\mu}(R)) \;\vee \;\inf\limits_n | | (\mu^n)_s| | ^{1/n} \] where \(\rho\) denotes the spectral radius and \(\nu_s\) denotes the singular part of a measure \(\nu\). This result is applied to prove norm convergence \(\mu^n \to \omega_G\) including rates of convergence for strictly aperiodic \(\mu\) with some non-singular power \(\mu^n\).
