Much of natural satellites in the solar system seem to require the dissipation tidal energy to account for relatively recent resurfacing episodes. The paper is concerned with the tidal heating for Jupiter's satellite Io and for Saturn's satellite Enceladus, rather than with details of the volcanism itself. It is noted that the tidally induced silicate volcanism on Io and tidally induced cryovolcanism on Enceladus have left authors with several unanswered questions deserving further research. Two possible histories leading to the resonant orbital configuration of the Galilean satellite system are discussed.
