By algebra we mean an associative algebra with 1 over a field \(k\). By \(\text{cohom}(A,-)\) we understand the left adjoint functor to \(A\otimes - \). For a finite dimensional algebra \(A\) \(\text{cohom}(A,B)\) can be presented by defining relations [\textit{D. Tambara}, J. Fac. Sci., Univ. Tokyo, Sect. I A 37, 425-456 (1990; Zbl 0717.16030), \textit{B. Pareigis}, Lect. Notes Pure Appl. Math. 158, 153-186 (1994; Zbl 0821.16041)]. Starting with this presentation, the author gives an explicit linear basis of \(\text{cohom}(A,B)\) where \(A\) and \(B\) are direct sums of matrix algebras over \(k\). As a corollary he proves that if \(A\) and \(B\) are separable algebras, then \(\text{cohom}(A,B)\) is a prime algebra with no polynomial identity provided \(\dim A\) or \(\dim B\) is greater than 2.
