This paper compares two approximations for a two-dimensional Dirichlet problem on angular domains. The conventional method is compared with a new method which is invariant with respect to affine transformations of the problem description. The exact solution of the physical model is invariant under these scale and displacement transformations, so that the new method is closer to the physical situation. It is also shown to have superior convergence properties. Examples are given and the convergence of both methods is established.
