The accuracy of the Fourier spectral method applied to nonlinear conservation laws is assessed through a numerical case study. The authors find out that the moments against analytic functions are not very accurate. However, the numerical solution contains accurate information which can be extracted by a Gegenbauer polynomial based post-processing.
