The paper presents a computational scheme for treating the fundamental solution of the axially symmetric Helmholtz equation and its singularities in application to the boundary element method (BEM). Instead of subtracting only the highest-order singular term, the first three terms of the Laurent series are removed, which leads to integrals better suited for numerical work, particularly in the evaluation of gradients. Furthermore, the usual elliptic integral forms are expressed in terms of hypergeometric functions. It is shown that, under the assumption of piecewise linear surface elements, the singular terms of the fundamental solution lead to surface integrals in the BEM which can be evaluated analytically.
