The paper is a continuation of the previous survey article by the same authors [Itogi Nauki Tekh., Ser. Algebra, Topologiya, Geom. 29, 63-119 (1991; Zbl 0793.54027)], and consists of three parts. 1. Aposyndetic continua. 2. Continuum theory and dimension theory. 3. Ordered compact spaces and their continuous images (the Hahn-Mazurkiewicz problem). Part 1 was written by the first named author; Parts 2 and 3 by the second. The list of references consists of 122 items. Reviewer's remarks: (1) In Part 1 a few results are badly formulated or quoted. The article by \textit{E. E. Grace} [A bibliography on aposyndesis, in `General topology and modern analysis', Proc. Conf., Riverside/Calif. 1980, 493-513 (1981; Zbl 0453.54023)] may be added to the references. (2) In Part 2 the works of Russian topologists only are discussed (with one exception). (3) Several items in the references are printed with errors in names of serials, misprints in numbers of volumes and/or pages. In many cases abbreviations of names of journals do not agree with the commonly accepted (e.g. ``Fundamenta Mathematicae'' are abbreviated in a strange form as Fund. Am. Math.).
