On Göbel's bound for invariants of permutation groups (Q1924573)

This paper gives a simple proof of a generalization of Göbel's recent degree bound for invariants of permutation groups. Göbel's result states that the subring of polynomials in \(n\) variables over any ring \(R\) invariant under some subgroup of the symmetric group is always generated as an \(R\)-algebra by certain polynomials of degree at most \(n(n- 1)/2\). The present paper generalizes this to the context of a subgroup of a Weyl group acting on the group algebra of its associated weight lattices.
