This article gives a sharp weak reverse Hölder inequality (RHI) for \(A_\infty\) weights in the framework of spaces of homogeneous type \((\mathcal{S}, d, \mu)\): \(d\) is a quasi-metric of constant \(\kappa\) on a set \(\mathcal{S}\) and \(\mu\) is a nonnegative Borel measure on \(\mathcal{S}\) with the doubling condition \(\mu(B(x, 2r))\leq C \mu(B(x,r))\). Two different results are derived from this inequality: \(\ast\) a precise open property for \(A_p\) weights is obtained, i.e. the admissible values of \(\varepsilon>0\) such that any \(A_p\) weight belongs to \(A_{p-\varepsilon}\). \(\ast\) a mixed bound for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function \(\mathcal{M}\): \[ \|\mathcal{M}\|_{L^p(\omega)}^p\leq A(\mu, \kappa) \frac{1}{p-1}[\omega]_{A_p}[\sigma]_{A_\infty} \] where \(\sigma=\omega^{1-p'}\), \(1<p<+\infty\) and \(A(\mu, \kappa)\) is a structural constant. In the usual setting of \(\mathbb{R}^n\) with the Euclidean metric, this paper gives a new proof of the reverse Hölder inequality.
