The authors establish two equivalences. 1. Delone sets of finite local complexity which satisfy a subadditive ergodic theorem are exactly those exhibiting a certain recurrence property in the shape of local arrangements, called ``positivity of quasiweights'' (PQ). 2. In nonperiodic Delone sets, linear repetitiveness is equivalent to PQ and ``uniformity of return words'' (U), which is again equivalent to U and a slightly strengthened version of PQ. Numerous remarks and references place these results in the context of similar statements in symbolic dynamics. As much due to an impressive economy of words in the proofs presented as to an intimidating amount of notation and terminology, more than half of the length of the paper is devoted to establishing definitions and placing them in historical context. The authors do an admirable job of clearly labeling all important notation, making it easy to refer back to earlier definitions when reading the later proofs, which are all presented clearly and succinctly.
