The author studies two questions related to dynamical systems over locally compact, sigma-compact Abelian groups. He first characterizes uniform convergence in Wiener/Winter type ergodic theorems in terms of the continuity of the limit. This generalizes and unifies earlier works by Robinson and Assani. He then studies diffractions of quasicrystals, and he shows how the Braggs peaks can be calculated via a Wiener/Winter type result. Combining these results, he obtains an ``almost sure'' version of what is sometimes called the Bombieri/Taylor conjecture, concerning percolation models and random displacement models based on aperiodic order. Finally, the author discusses various examples including deformed model sets, percolation models, random displacement models, and linearly repetitive systems. In particular, he studies the so-called linearly repetitive Delone dynamical systems introduced by Lagarias/Pleasants, and their subshift counterparts, called linear subrecurrent subshifts.
