The authors give a Lie-algebraic classification of the different types of equations of the form \(u_{1}=F(t,x,u,u_{1},u_{2})u_{3}+G(t,x,u,u_{1},u_{2})\) with arbitrary smooth functions \(F\) and \(G\) on their arguments which admit non-trivial Lie point symmetries. Here \(F\neq 0\) and \(u_{1}=u_{x},\) \(u_{2}=u_{xx},\) \(u_{3}=u_{xxx}.\) The considered class of the equations contains the KdV equation \(u_{t}=u^{3}+uu_{1}\) the modified KdV equation \(u_{t}=u_{3}+u^{2}u_{1}\) the cylindrical KdV equation \(u_{t}=u_{3}+uu_{1}-\frac{1}{2t}u\) the Harry-Dym equation \(u_{t}=u^{3}u_{3}\) and also the KdV equation with variable coefficients \(u_{t}=f(t,x)u_{3}+g(t,x)uu_{1},\) where \(f\neq 0,\) \(g\neq 0.\)
