Let \(X\) be a Tychonoff space and \(C_{p}(X)\) be the set of all continuous real-valued functions on \(X\) endowed with the topology of pointwise convergence. The space \(X\) is a Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-space if it is the image of a second countable space \(M\) by an upper-semicontinuous compact-valued map \(\varphi\). If, in addition, for a cardinal \(\kappa\) the weight of \(\varphi(x)\), for any \(x \in M\), is at most equal \(\kappa\) (strictly less than \(\kappa\)) then \(X\) is said to be an \(L\Sigma (\leq\kappa)\)-space (\(L\Sigma(<\kappa)\)-space). In the present paper, the author shows that if \(C_{p}(X)\) is an \(L\Sigma (<\omega)\)-space then \(X\) is cosmic. He also proves that, if \(X\) has a unique non-isolated point and \(|X|\leq \mathbf{c}\), then \(C_{p}(X)\) is an \(L\Sigma (\leq \omega)\)-space if and only if \(C_{p}(X)\) is a Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-space if and only if \(X\) is a Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-space. The author further shows that, for any space \(X\) for which \(C_{p}(X)\) has the Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-property, \(C_{p}(X)\) is an \(L\Sigma (\leq \omega)\)-space if and only if \(|X|\leq \mathbf{c} \). Some open questions are posed.
