The paper deals with the problem of \({\mathcal H}_\infty\) filtering for nonlinear sampled-data systems. Sufficient conditions are given for the existence of filters that guarantee that the \({\mathcal L}_2\) gain from an exogenous input to an estimation error is less than or equal to a prescribed value. These conditions are expressed in terms of both continuous and discrete Hamilton-Jacobi equations.
