    Consider the second-order damped nonlinear difference equation \[ \Delta\bigl[a_{n-1} (\Delta y_{n-1})^\sigma \bigr]+p_{n-1}(\Delta y_{n-1})^\sigma+ q_nf(y_n)= 0,\tag{*} \] \(n\geq n_0>0\), where \(\sigma\) is a positive quotient of odd integers, \(\{a_n\}\) is a real sequence (eventually positive); \(\{p_n\}\) and \(\{q_n\}\) are real sequences and \(f\) is a real-valued continuous function on \(\mathbb{R}\). Assume that \[ \rho_n=\prod^{n-1}_{i=n_0}(1-p_i/ a_i)^{-1/\sigma}\quad (a_n-p_n> 0,\;n\geq n_0) \] satisfies the conditions \[ \begin{aligned} & \sum^\infty_{s=n_0} (a_s\rho_s)^{-1/ \sigma}=\infty,\\ & 0< \int^\infty_\varepsilon \bigl[f(y)\bigr]^{-1/ \sigma}dy <\infty,\;\int^{-\infty}_{-\varepsilon} \bigl[f(y)\bigr]^{-1/ \sigma}dy< \infty,\quad \text{for every }\varepsilon >0\\ & \sum^\infty_{s=n_0} q_s\rho_s\text{ exists and } \lim_{n \to\infty} \sum^\infty_{s=n_0} (a_s\rho_s)^{-1/\sigma} \left( \sum^\infty_{i=s+1} q_i\rho_i \right)^{1/ \sigma}=\infty, \end{aligned} \] then every solution of (*) is oscillatory. Some other similar results are obtained.
