Let \(K\) be an algebraic number field, \(D\) its ring of integers and \(E\) an infinite subset of \(D\), consisting of full residue classes with respect to a fixed non-zero ideal of \(D\). Moreover let Int\((E,D)\) be the set of polynomials with coefficients in \(K\) which map \(E\) into \(D\). It has been shown by \textit{M. Bhargava} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 490, 101-127 (1997; Zbl 0899.13022)] that \(\text{Int}(E,D)=\bigoplus_{n=0}^{\infty}g_nI_n\), where for each \(n\), \(g_n\) is a monic polynomial of degree \(n\) and \(I_n\) is the ideal of \(D\), generated by the leading coefficients of polynomials having degrees not exceeding \(n\) and lying in \(\text{Int}(E,D)\). In the case \(E=D\) the ideals \(I_n\) were determined by \textit{G. Pólya} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 149, 97-116 (1919; JFM 47.0163.04)] and the authors do this in the general case by reducing the problem to its local analogue and solving the latter. It turns out that an earlier solution of this problem, presented in the paper of \textit{C. Bárbácioru} [J. Number Theory 65, No. 1, 40-47 (1997; Zbl 0887.13013)] is incorrect.
