This paper is a reprint from Sci. Rep. Tôhoku Univ., I. Ser. 35, 62-67 (1951; Zbl 0045.13202). The author derives the de Sitter solution of Einstein's field equations for a homogeneous static and empty universe starting from the isotropic form of the spherically symmetric line-element. The geometrical and physical properties of the solution are discussed.
