This paper discusses the choice of boundary conditions to be applied on the artificial boundary when an unbounded domain is truncated for computational purposes. The author shows that if the original problem is linear on the exterior of the artificial domain, then it is possible to obtain exact nonreflecting boundary conditions by solving an auxiliary problem.
