There is investigated the following Dirichlet problem: \[ -\Delta u=Q(y)u^{\frac{N+2}{N-2}-\varepsilon}, \quad y\in\Omega,\quad u>0\text{ in }\Omega, \quad u=0 \text{ on }\partial\Omega, \] where \(\varepsilon\) is small positive number, \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain in \(\mathbb {R}^N\) with smooth boundary \(\partial\Omega\) and \(Q(y)\) is a smooth positive function in \(\overline\Omega\). Let \(A_Q\) be the set of critical points of the function \(Q(y)\) in \(\overline\Omega\). The aim of the paper is to describe the subset \(B_Q\subset A_Q\) of points \(\{y_0\}\) possessing the following property. There exists \(\varepsilon_0>0\), such that for each \(\varepsilon\in(0,\varepsilon_0)\) the problem under consideration has a solution of the form \[ u_\varepsilon=\alpha_\varepsilon P U_{y_\varepsilon,\lambda_\varepsilon} + v_\varepsilon, \] where \(\|v_\varepsilon\|_{H^1(\Omega)}\to 0, y_\delta\to y_0, \lambda_\varepsilon\to\infty, \alpha_\varepsilon\to Q(y_0)^{-\frac{N-2}{4}} \) as \(\varepsilon\to 0\); \[ U_{y,\lambda}(x)=\left[N(N-2)\right]^{\frac{N-2}{4}} \frac{\lambda^{\frac{N-2}{2}}}{(1+\lambda^2|x-y|^2)^{\frac{N-2}{2}}}; \] \(P\) is the projection from \(H^1(\Omega)\) into \(H^1_0(\Omega)\). It is proved that all strict local maximum points belong to \(A_Q\) and there are found sufficient conditions such that strict local minimum points belong to \(A_Q\).
