A Chebyshev-type problem is considered, namely, to estimate \[ \min_{p \in V_n}{\frac{\int_Jpfw}{\int_Jpgw}}, \] where \(J\) is a closed interval, \(w\) is a weight function, \(f\) and \(g\) are measurable functions such that \(fw\) and \(gw\) belong to \(L^1(J)\), \(gw\) is nonnegative and not essentially identically zero. The minimum here is taken over the class \(V_n\) of trigonometric or algebraic polynomials of degree \(n\) nonnegative on \(J\). To study the problem, the spectra of Toeplitz matrices are studied, some density and ergodic theorems are proved.
