The authors study the ideal \(J_A\) generated by the partial derivatives of a trilinear form \(A\) in general position over a field. First they define and study the concept of a trilinear form in general position. They also extend Eisenbud's definition of a \(1\)-generic matrix and relate it to their concept of general position. Then the authors describe minimal primes, minimal components, the radical of \(J_A\), etc. The paper generalizes results by \textit{G. Boffi, W. Bruns} and \textit{A. Guerrieri} [J. Algebra 197, 521-534 (1997; Zbl 0914.13005)].
