In a story-like prologue a motivation and introduction to action theories is given. In the first chapter (Foundations of Action Theories) basic definitions are presented. The second chapter (The Ramification Problem) is devoted to various approaches how to solve the ramification problem (minimizing change, categorizing fluents, causal relationships, influence information, non-minimal successor states, triggered vs. coupled effects, implicit qualifications vs. indirect effects). Later a fluent calculus axiomatization is given. The third chapter (The Qualification Problem) is devoted to abnormal actions (abnormal action disqualifications, minimizing abnormal disqualifications, causing abnormal action disqualifications, degrees of abnormality, axiomatizing qualification). The last chapter (Qualified Ramification) is devoted to connections between the Ramification and Qualification Problem. Each chapter ends with extensive bibliographical remarks.
