The authors provide a new method for the construction of binary self-dual codes. By applying two theorems (Theorem 3.1 and Theorem 4.1), the authors found 93 new codes, which are optimal or best known. The codes are constructed over commutative Frobenius rings. Further, the authors introduce a special mapping \(\theta\) in Section 2.4. This mapping improves the computational results of their algorithms. New binary self-dual codes are given in the form \((n,k,d)\) for \((56,28,10)\), \((58,29,10)\), \((64,32,12)\), \((80,40,14)\), \((92,46,16).\)
