For \(\mathbb{F}_q\) the finite field of \(q\) elements of characteristic \(p\) and \(\psi\) a fixed non-trivial additive character on \(\mathbb{F}_q\), one associates to any given Laurent polynomial \(f\) its \(L\)-function. Deligne's theorem on the Riemann hypothesis gives descriptions of the Archimedean absolute values of its zeros and poles. In this context one defines the Newton polytope of \(f\), Laurent and Deligne polynomials. A conjecture of Lê says that the Deligne polytope \(\Delta _d\) is generically ordinary if \(p\equiv 1(\bmod D(\Delta _d)\)), where \(D(\Delta _d)\) is a combinatorial constant determined by \(\Delta _d\). In this paper a counterexample is given to show that the conjecture is not true in general.
