The authors show that for every integer \(m > 0\) there is an ordinary abelian variety over \(\mathbb F_2\) that has exactly \(m\) rational points (see Theorem 1 for a more precise formulation). Using Theorem 1 as a starting point, \textit{S. Marseglia} and \textit{C. Springer} [``Every finite abelian group is the group of rational points of an ordinary abelian variety over \(\mathbb F_2\), \(\mathbb F_3\) and \(\mathbb F_5\)'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:2105.08125}] show that every finite abelian group is isomorphic to \(A(\mathbb F_2)\) for some ordinary abelian variety \(A\) over \(\mathbb F_2\).
