Let \(M=\{ M_k(t)\}_{k\in Z},\ t\geq 0\), be a sequence of Orlicz functions and let \(S_M\) be the Musielak-Orlicz-type space of \(2\pi\) periodic complex-valued Lebesque summable functions. Let \(\Psi=\{\psi (k)\}_{k\in Z} \) be an arbitrary sequence of complex numbers and \(L^\psi S_M\) denote the space of functions for which the \(\psi\)-derivative belongs to \(S_M\). The approximation properties of the spaces \(S_M\) are studied. Exact Jackson-type inequalities related to \(L^{\psi}S_M\) are obtained in terms of the best approximations of functions by the trigonometrical polynomials and the averages values of their generalized moduli of smoothness. The values of Kolmogorov, Bernstein, linear, and projective widths in the spaces \(S_M\) are found for classes of periodic functions defined by certain conditions on the averaged values of the generalized moduli of smoothness.
