The authors consider the system of two one-dimensional PDEs in the two unknowns \((\rho,J)\), \[ \left\{ \begin{array}{l} \partial_t\rho+\partial_xJ=0, \\ \partial_tJ+\partial_x\rho=-2k(x)\alpha(t)g(J), \end{array} \right. \] for \(x\in[0,1]\), \(t\ge0\) with \[ (\rho,J)(\cdot,0)=(\rho_0,J_0)(\cdot)\in L^\infty(0,1), \quad J(0,t)=J(1,t)=0. \] The article presents the well-posedness of the model problem as well as the solution's exponential decay to zero under appropriate assumptions. Finally, a decay property for the corresponding solution to the semilinear wave equation is achieved in \(W^{1,\infty}(0,1)\).
