Let \(X\) be a complex \(K3\) surface and \(\phi\in\mathrm{Aut} X\) an automorphism of \(X\). We define the \textit{entropy} of \(\phi\) as the quantity \(h(\phi)=\log \lambda (\phi^*)\), where \(\phi^*\) is the pull-back map on \(H^*(X,\mathbb{C})\) and \(\lambda (\phi^*)\) is the maximum norm of its eigenvalues. We say that \(X\) has \textit{zero entropy}, writing \(h(X)=0\), if every automorphism \(\phi\in \mathrm{Aut} X\) has zero entropy; otherwise, we say that \(X\) has \textit{positive entropy}, writing \(h(X)>0\). \textit{V. V. Nikulin} [Tr. Mosk. Mat. O.-va 38, 75--137 (1979; Zbl 0433.14024)] and \textit{E. B. Vinberg} [Trans. Mosc. Math. Soc. 2007, 39--66 (2007; Zbl 1207.11073)] give a complete classification of the Picard lattices of \(K3\) surfaces with a finite automorphism group. A result by \textit{S. Cantat} [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I, Math. 328, No. 10, 901--906 (1999; Zbl 0943.37021)] implies that an automoprhism of a \(K3\) surface has zero entropy if and only if it has finite order or preserves an elliptic pencil on the surface. So, in particular, if \(|\mathrm{Aut}X|<\infty\), then \(h(X)=0\). The author of the paper under review carries on the classification of \(K3\) surfaces with zero entropy, focusing on those with infinite automorphism group and admitting a particular elliptic fibration. Main theorem. Let \(X\) be a complex projective \(K3\) surface with \(|\mathrm{Aut} X|=\infty\). Suppose that \(X\) admits an elliptic fibration with only irreducible fibers. Then \(h(X)=0\) if and only if and only if the Picard lattice of \(X\) belongs to an explicit list of 32 lattices. The list of 32 lattices is given in the paper. The proof is mostly lattice theoretical. Combining the arguments appearing in the proof with a result by \textit{J. Keum} et al. [Math. Res. Lett. 16, No. 1, 133--148 (2009; Zbl 1172.14025)], the author also proves that any complex surface with Picard number \(\rho (X)\geq 19\) and infinite automorphism group has positive entropy. In turn, comparing this result with the list of lattices of \(K3\) surfaces with finite automoprhism group given by Nikulin, one can conclude that if \(X\) is a \(K3\) surface with \(\rho (X)=19\) and \(\mathrm{NS}X\ncong U\oplus E_8 \oplus E_8 \oplus A_1\), then \(h(X)>0\).
