\textit{L. Manivel} [Commun. Algebra 47, No. 2, 706--718 (2019; Zbl 1436.14082)] proved the existence of rank 9 Ulrich sheaves on a general cubic hypersurface of dimension at most 7. In this paper, the authors reprove Manivel's result by applying Shamash's construction to compute an explicit matrix factorization corresponding to an Ulrich module of rank 9. They also provide a geometric interpretation of the above factorization, connecting the Cartan cubic and the spinor tenfold.
