The authors investigate the propagation of shear acoustic waves in a piezoelectric structure, composed of a cylindrical core imperfectly bonded to a concentric layer of a functionally graded piezoelectric material of finite width. The material characteristics of the external medium are taken to vary along the radial direction according to a given power law. A proper system of cylindrical coordinates is used to describe the problem. Two types of electrical conditions are employed, according to which the electric potential at the outer boundary may take zero or nonzero value. As to the imperfect bonding condition at the interface, it is described by jumps in the mechanical displacement along the axis of the cylinder and in the electric potential. Dispersion relations are obtained for different cases and comparison is carried out with existing results. Numerical results are provided and discussed, in order to assess the influence of different geometrical and physical parameters on the solution.
