The authors prove a vector-valued extension of Carleson's theorem; namely, that the Walsh-Fourier series for \(Y\)-valued functions \(f\in L^p(0,1;Y)\), \(1 < p < \infty\), converges almost everywhere to \(f\), where \(Y\) is a UMD space having the special form \(Y=[X,H]_\theta\), \(0<\theta<1\) (complex interpolation), \(X\) is another UMD space and \(H\) is a Hilbert space. This partially answers a question raised in [\textit{J. L. Rubio de Francia}, Lect. Notes Math. 1221, 195--202 (1986; Zbl 0615.60041)], where the author already proved it for UMD lattices. Whether any UMD space \(Y\) can be written as a complex intermediate space is yet an open problem. The proof is based on assuming a new \textit{tile-type} condition (satisfied by all intermediate UMD spaces as described), which is closely related to the time-frequency tiles in the phase plane, as in the work [the second author and \textit{C. Thiele}, Math. Res. Lett. 7, No. 4, 361--370 (2000; Zbl 0966.42009)].
