As stated in the abstract the authors generalize the Ri fixed point theorem mentioned there by the use of some lower semicontinuous function \(\varphi:X\to [0,\infty)\), where \((X,d)\) is a complete metric space. Namely, Ri's contraction type condition \(d(Tx,Ty)\leq \lambda(d(x,y))\), where \(\lambda:[0,\infty)\to [0,\infty)\) satisfies \(\lambda(0)=0, \lambda(t)<t\) and \(\limsup_{s\to t^+} \lambda(s)<t\) for all \(t>0\), is replaced by \[ F(d(Tx,Ty),\varphi(Tx), \varphi(Ty))\leq \lambda(F(d(x,y),\varphi(x),\varphi(y))), \] where \(F:[0,\infty)^3\to [0,\infty)\) is a continuous function satisfying \(\max\{a,b\}\leq F(a,b,c)\) for all \(a,b,c\in [0,\infty)\), and \(F(a,0,0)=a\) for all \(a\geq 0\). As a result the authors obtain the existence and uniqueness of so-called \(\varphi\)-fixed points, i.e., fixed points of \(T\) satisfying \(\varphi(x)=0\). The authors' main fixed point result implies the one in partial metric spaces. The authors devote the last section of the paper to formulate and prove this and some other corollaries.
