It is investigated the dynamics of unstable oscillating systems (exemplified by an inverted pendulum) controlled by action of a hysteretic type. The presented results concern different type of motions of the suspension point. First, explicit stability criteria for a model of inverted pendulum with an oscillating suspension are obtained using its linearization. Moreover, the dependences between the initial conditions and the values of the control parameters are described in order to provide periodic oscillations of the pendulum. Next, a model of inverted pendulum with feedback control is considered. Its region of dissipativity is determined in terms of constraints on the initial conditions. Also, a sufficient condition for asymptotic stability of this model is obtained in the presence of fixed uncertainty in the control. At last, the problem of stabilization of a flexible inverted pendulum with a backlash in the suspension point is studied as well as a finite time-horizon problem for minimization of a quadratic functional over the parameters of the control action. An numerical example is also given.
