The author obtains generalizations of results of Mirzakhani on the asymptotic equidistribution, as \(L\to\infty\), of closed geodesics of fixed length \(L\), with respect to a natural measure on the moduli space of closed hyperbolic surfaces of fixed type. At the same time, he provides details for several arguments that were passed over quickly in Mirzakhani's papers.
