In [``Anisotropic multiscale systems on bounded domains'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1510.04538}], \textit{P. Grohs} et al. introduced the notion of a hybrid shearlet-wavelet system on a bounded domain \(\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^2\) from a combination of parts of a wavelet frame on a bounded domain and parts of a shearlet system on \(\mathbb{R}^2\). The construction of the hybrid shearlet-wavelet system functions by including wavelet elements supported close to the boundary of the domain and shearlet elements that are supported inside the domain. In the present paper, the authors have studied hybrid shearlet-wavelet system on bounded domains which yields frames for \(H^s(\Omega)\) for some \(s\in\mathbb{N}, \Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^2\). It has been found that approximation rates with respect to \(H^s(\Omega)\) norms for functions whose derivatives admit smooth jumps along curves are better than those provided by pure wavelet systems and thus demonstrated the potential of the novel shearlet system for the discretization of PDE. Finally, an adaptive shearlet-wavelet-based algorithm for the solution of an elliptic PDE has been implemented and convergence properties have been analyzed.
