Singular value inclusion sets of rectangular tensors (Q2002557)

The authors work on rectangular tensors, namely tensors of type \( v\in V^{m\times \dots \times m \times n \times \dots \times n },\) where \(V=\mathbb{R}\) or \(\mathbb{C}.\) The main task is finding bounds on the set of singular values of \(v\) in terms of its components. In both the real and the complex case, they use a digraph argument to produce bounds which improve the ones previously known in the literature. The computations in the proofs are very explicit. In the complex case, they use a lifting square tensor to obtain the desired bounds. They give some simple numeric examples that clearly show the relation between the old and the new bounds on the singular value set. In the last section, using again the lifting square tensors, they extend a result from \textit{C. Bu} et al. [Linear Algebra Appl. 480, 168--175 (2015; Zbl 1320.15019)] to rectangular tensors.
