    The author investigates the compressible viscoelastic system \begin{align*} &\partial_t \rho + \text{div}(\rho v)=0,\\ &\rho (\partial_t v+v\cdot \nabla v)-\nu\Delta v-(\nu+\nu')\nabla\text{div}v+\nabla P(\rho)=\beta^2\text{div}(\text{div}(\rho F^\top F),\\ &\partial_t F+v\cdot \nabla F=(\nabla v)F,\ t\ge 0,\ x\in \mathbb{R}^3,\\ &(\rho,v,F)|_{t=0}=(\rho_0,v_0,F_0), \end{align*} where \(\rho=\rho(x,t)\), \(v=(v^1,v^2,v^3)^\top\) and \(F=(F^{jk}(x,t))_{1\le j,k \le 3}\) are the unknown density, the velocity field and the deformation tensor; \(P=P(\rho)\), \(P'(1)>0\) the pressure, \(\nu\) and \(\nu'\) the viscosity coefficients satisfying \(\nu >0\), \(2\nu+3\nu'\ge 0.\) After setting \(u=(\phi,w,G)=(\rho-1,v,F-I)\), \(\gamma=\sqrt{P'(1)}\), the system is transformed into the initial-boundary value problem \begin{align*} &\partial_t \phi + \text{div} w =g_1,\quad \partial_t w - \nu \Delta w - \tilde\nu \nabla \text{div} w + \gamma^2 \nabla \phi - \beta^2 \text{div} G=g_2,\\ &\partial_t G - \nabla w = g_3,\quad \nabla \phi + \text{div}^\top G =g_4,\\ & u|_{t=0}=u_0=(\phi_0,w_0,G_0). \end{align*} The main result is a theorem containing the existence and the uniqueness of a solution and the decay estimates.
