Let \((M^{4n},I,J,K,\Omega)\) be an arbitrary compact connected hyper-Kähler with torsion (HKT) manifold. The main result of the paper is Theorem 1.1.13 which gives a \(C^0\) a priori estimate for the quaternionic Calabi problem in this setting. This extends earlier results of the first author and \textit{M. Verbitsky} [Isr. J. Math. 176, 109--138 (2010; Zbl 1193.53118)] and the authors [Isr. J. Math. 197, 309--327 (2013; Zbl 1300.53048)], where such an estimate was proved under additional assumptions on \(M\). The methods of proof follow the approach of \textit{Z. Błocki} [Sci. China, Ser. A 48, 244--247 (2005; Zbl 1128.32025)] for the uniform estimate in the complex Calabi-Yau theorem. However in the quaternionic case there are new difficulties that the authors have to deal with (see Theorem 3.2.2).
