The paper under review deals with the possibility of Köthe spaces to contain special asymptotically isometric copies of \(c_0\), \(\ell_1\) and \(\ell_\infty\), the so-called order asymptotically isometric copies. This concept encodes the containment of a sequence of orthogonal elements in the sense of Köthe spaces spanning asymptotically isometric copies of the previous spaces. The authors show that for Köthe spaces with the Fatou property the containment of an order asymptotically copy of \(c_0\) and \(\ell_\infty\) are equivalent. It is also proved that, under certain assumptions on a Köthe space \(X\), the subspace of order continuous elements contains an order asymptotically isometric copy of \(c_0\) whenever \(X\) contains an order asymptotically isometric copy of \(\ell_\infty\). Furthermore, conditions on a Köthe space \(X\) are given to guarantee that \(X\) contains an order asymptotically isometric copy of \(\ell_1\) if, and only if, its Köthe dual \(X'\) contains an order asymptotically isometric copy of \(\ell_\infty\). Finally, applications to Orlicz spaces, Musielak-Orlicz spaces, Orlicz-Lorentz spaces and Calderón-Lozanovskii spaces are given.
