In the very interesting paper under review, the author derives a priori estimates for the second-order derivatives of solutions to fully nonlinear elliptic equations of the form \[ f\left(\lambda[\nabla^2u+\chi]\right)=\psi\quad \text{in}\;M, \] where \((M,g)\) is a compact Riemannian manifolds of dimension \(n\geq2\) with smooth boundary \(\partial M,\) \(\chi\) is a smooth \((0,2)\) tensor on \(\overline M,\) \(\nabla^2u\) stands for the Hessian of \(u\in C^2(M)\) and \(\lambda[\nabla^2u+\chi]=(\lambda_1,\ldots,\lambda_n)\) are the eigenvalues of \(\nabla^2u+\chi\) with respect to the metric \(g.\) The smooth symmetric function \(f\) is defined in a symmetric open and convex cone \(\Gamma\subset {\mathbb R}^n\) with vertex at the origin, and is assumed to satisfy the standard structure conditions: \[ \dfrac{\partial f}{\partial \lambda_i}>0\quad \text{in}\;\Gamma,\;1\leq i\leq n, \] \[ f\;\text{is a concave function,} \] \[ \inf \psi - \sup_{\lambda_0\in\partial\Gamma} \limsup_{\lambda\to\lambda_0} f(\lambda)>0. \] Both equations on closed manifolds and the Dirichlet problem on manifolds with boundary without any geometric restrictions to the boundary are studied. The estimates obtained yield regularity and existence results, some of which are new even for the case of equations in Euclidean space.
