Orbits of finite solvable groups on characters. (Q2017146)

Let \(A\) be a finite solvable group acting faithfully and coprimely on a finite solvable group \(G\). The paper is concerned with the existence of large orbits of \(A\) on the set of irreducible characters of \(G\). In particular, it proves that an orbit of size at least \(|A|^{1/49}\) will exist. A much stronger bound in the case when \((6,|A|)=1\) is also obtained. These results extend results in [\textit{A. Moretó}, Isr. J. Math. 146, 243-251 (2005; Zbl 1096.20012)], where the case when \(A\) is a \(p\)-group is considered. The proof uses ideas from this earlier paper, and re-obtains its main result with a weaker bound.
