Let \(f: \mathbb R^n\rightarrow \mathbb R^n\) be a quasiregular map. A point \(a\in \mathbb R^n\cup \{\infty\}\) is called an asymptotic value of \(f\) if there is a continuous path \(\gamma\subset \mathbb R^n\) along which \[ \lim_{z\rightarrow \infty, z\in \gamma} f(z)=a. \] The paper under review studies the following question: which subsets of \(\mathbb R^n\) can arise as the set of asymptotic values of a quasiregular map? The main result in the paper says that for any analytic set \(A\subset \mathbb R^n\), \(n\geq 3\), there is a quasiregular map such that the set of asymptotic values of \(f\) is exactly \(A\cup \{\infty\}\). Furthermore, \(f\) can be chosen to have order of growth \((n-1)\). The authors remark that in a forthcoming paper they show that the set of asymptotic values of every quasiregular map is an analytic set. When \(n=2\), if the order of growth of a quasiregular map is finite, then the set of asymptotic values must be finite. This contrasts with the above result. Previously, for \(n\geq 3\), Holopainen and Rickman have constructed a quasiregular map with order of growth \(n-1\) and an infinite countable set of asymptotic values. Drasin constructed a quasiregular map \(f\) with order of growth \(n-1\) and the set of asymptotic values the entire space. The proof in the paper under review is a modification of Drasin's construction.
