The author deals with the existence of extremal sets in Banach spaces containing isomorphic copies of \(c_0\). The author's main result is the following. { Theorem.} Suppose that the Banach space \(X\) contains an asymptotically isometric copy of \(c_0\). Then there exists a bounded closed convex subset \(C\) of \(X\) with \(r(C)=1\) such that for every \(k\geq 1\), there exists a \(k\)-contractive map \(T:C\to C\) with \(||x-Tx||> 1-(1/k)\) for every \(x\in C\). Some comments involving related statements are also given.
