The author starts with a flat family \(Y \rightarrow {\mathbb P}^n\) of geometrically integral Gorenstein curves. For such a family the compactified relative Jacobian \(X=\bar{J}^d(Y/{\mathbb P}^n)\) is well-defined. Assume \(X\) is a hyperkähler manifold of dimension \(2n\) with a Lagrangian fibration \(X \rightarrow {\mathbb P}^n\). The author proves that the degree of the discriminant locus \(\Delta \subset {\mathbb P}^n\) is at least \(4n+2\), and if \(\deg (\Delta) > 4n+20\) he proves that \(X\) is a Beauville-Mukai integrable system (the family \(Y \rightarrow {\mathbb P}^n\) is a complete linear system of curves on a \(K3\) surface).
