The paper is concerned with the eigenvalue problem on a two-patch domain. It is proved that it is equivalent to the eigenvalue problem of a measure differential equation on a one-patch domain. Then, the existence of principal eigenvalue for measure differential equations and the continuous dependence of the principal eigenvalue on the weight measure (when the measure space is endowed with the weak\(*\) topology) are provided. A minimization problem for principal eigenvalues is solved for measure differential equations. Due to the announced equivalence, all these results yield new features on patchy eigenvalue problems. Finally, a broad comparison with already known properties is developed and interesting biological interpretation (for population dynamics) of the theoretical results are presented, in terms of survival chance.
