The article gives a comprehensive review of the current state-of-the-art techniques related to the representation of Feynman integrals in scale perturbative quantum field theory. The main point of this article is that amplitudes are not completely arbitrary numbers and the theory of motivic periods places restrictions on the set of possible numbers occurring as amplitudes. The author also explains the coaction conjecture, which gives new constraints at each loop order for computations in scalar field theory. The speculation of this paper is that the whole class of Feynman integrals may have a motivic representation. This in turn motivates the study of scattering amplitudes in quantum field theory using the machinery of representation theory of groups. The results explained in this paper are clear and all the ideas are thoroughly elaborated. This reference should be taken as a valuable resource for those who want to expand their understanding about the relationship between motivic periods and Feynman integrals.
