Suppose that \(M\) is a topological monoid, \(\psi:M\to M\) is a continuous anti-homomorphism of \(M\), and \(\mu: M\to{\mathbb{C}}\) is a continuous multiplicative function such that \(\mu(x\psi(x))=1\) for all \(x\in M\). In terms of multiplicative functions, additive functions and characters of \(2\)-dimensional representations of \(M\), the authors express the solutions \((w,g)\) of the Wilson's \(\mu\)-functional equation \[w(xy)+\mu(y)w(x\psi(y))=2w(x)g(y),\,\, x,y\in M,\tag{\(*\)}\] where \(w, g: M \to{\mathbb{C}}\) are such that \(w\) is central and \(g\) is continuous. Furthermore, they find all complex valued, central and continuous solutions of Jensen's functional equation \(J(xy) + J(x\psi(y)) = 2J(x),\,\, x, y \in M\). They present an example of a solution \((w, g)\) of the equation \((*)\) such that \(w\neq 0\), but \(g\) is not a solution of the d'Alembert \(\mu\)-functional equation \[g(xy) + \mu(y)g(x\psi(y)) = 2g(x)g(y),\,\, x, y \in M.\tag{\(**\)}\] In addition, when \(g\) is a non-abelian fixed solution of \((*)\), they find all solutions \(w\) of the equation \((**)\). They also give a similar result for \(g\) being an abelian solution of \((**)\) when \(M\) is a compact group.
