Applying the matrix Painlevé-Kovalevskaya test to a matrix equation \[ y'' =\kappa [y, y']+2y^3 + b_1y+yb_2 +a, \quad a, b_1, b_2 \in \mathrm{Mat}_n,\] three types of the matrix Painlevé II equations are obtained: \begin{align*} y'' &=2y^3 +zy+by+yb+\alpha I, \qquad \alpha \in \mathbb{C}, b\in \mathrm{Mat}_n, \\ y'' &=\pm [y, y'] +2y^3 +zy+a, \qquad a \in \mathrm{Mat}_n\\ y'' &=\pm 2 [y, y']+2y^3 +zy+by+yb+a, \qquad a, b \in \mathrm{Mat}_n, \ [b,a] = \pm 2b, \end{align*} up to some transformations. The first equation is known [\textit{V. Retakh} and \textit{V. Rubtsov}, J. Phys. A, Math. Theor. 43, No. 50, Article ID 505204, 13 p. (2010; Zbl 1211.37079)] and the others are new. These three equations are also obtained by group-invariant reductions from the matrix nonlinear Schrödinger equation or the matrix modified KdV equation. These reductions allow to find the isomonodromic Lax pairs for three types of the matrix Painlevé II equations.
