This article is a contribution to the problem of classifying nice subcategories of the abelian category Mod-\(R\) of modules over a commutative noetherian ring \(R\), or of its derived category \(\mathbf{D}(R)\). A first important contribution was given by \textit{P. Gabriel} [Bull. Soc. Math. Fr. 90, 323--448 (1962; Zbl 0201.35602)], exhibiting a bijection between localising subcategories of Mod-\(R\) and specialisation-closed subsets of the prime spectrum Spec(\(R\)). More recently, \textit{H. Krause} [Math. Ann. 340, No. 4, 733--747 (2008; Zbl 1143.13012)] classified the full subcategories of Mod-\(R\) which are stable under kernels, cokernels, extensions and arbitrary direct sums. It involves again the spectrum Spec(\(R\)), but also the notion of support of an \(R\)-module. On the triangulated side, let us mention, among others, the works by \textit{A. Neeman} [Topology 31, No. 3, 519--532 (1992; Zbl 0793.18008)] and by \textit{L. Alonso Tarrío} et al. [J. Algebra 324, No. 3, 313--346 (2010; Zbl 1237.14011)], which classifies \(t\)-structures on \(\mathbf{D}(R)\). In the article under review, classification results related to \(t\)-structures and hereditary torsion pairs are proved. As the statements are technical, let us only quote the references to some of the main results: Theorems 4.5, 5.6 and 6.16. Some of the results of the paper deal not only with Mod-\(R\) but with more general Grothendieck categories (and their derived categories), especially in its Section 5.
